Restaurant Review: District Taco (Washington D.C.)

unnamed (1)If you are gluten free and ever find yourself in the Washington DC area I highly recommend District Taco. This taco joint, originating from a set of food trucks, now has several store front locations across DC and Virginia but has maintained much of the food truck character.

The walls of the front of the store are lined with notes of praise and fun accolades of people’s experiences, which is a great way to pass the time as you wait for your order. It’s also good publicity! Orders are made in the front of their stores, and you are given a number that will be called when your food is ready. Items are cooked on the spot yet quick, and come out warm. Their menu is simple, offering an array of Mexican fair much of which is gluten free. They are also highly vegetarian and vegan friendly, and serve alcoholic beverages.

After ordering you can go all out on the salsa bar adding free condiment to your order, including a variety of different salsas, sauces, and toppings. Even without this station though the food was fantastic. It was subtly flavored and fresh, and if you get the corn tortilla tacos they are double wrapped so you can make twice the food with their salsa bar. As an added bonus for us vegetarian and vegan folks their vegetarian items come with free guacamole. Finally, the entire menu is decently priced. You won’t go hungry here if you have only ten dollars on you!
