Spice up your life, but how?

I want to talk about something relevant to my subtitle, being happy with the food we eat in a fasted paced world. I am sure that this does not happen frequently to many of us who do not have a lot of times on our hand. Recently I have run into an issue related to this…an unusual transformation is starting to take place, my taste buds are beginning to consider Mutiny. Mike and I have recently resorted to purchasing a lot of gluten free pre-packaged foods or take out because we have such little time. I was fine with this for a few weeks but I am slowly growing more and more disinterested in this type of food. I am also slowly growing more and more irritable and pissy. When we were at a local Afghani restaurant that we both love and savor as the best food ever I was closing my eyes  while eating to savor the food and thought ‘This is what I want’. That is when I realize it: I want taste, I want passion in my food and my cooking. I want a smile on my face when I eat. This is Definitely in part due to my immersion in the gluten free online community, I love it! I have started to drool over photos or descriptions of good food, I have started to drool while looking at blogs and twitter. So how do I make the next step to meeting my wants and having and making amazing food? Therein lies the Rub… I have NO idea how to do this on the budget and time frame we currently have. No clue what so ever. Mike suggested throwing out all the food we do have and start from scratch, but being stingy I don’t think that is a good idea.So what do I do?

Firstly, I need to come up with a plan. I haven’t gotten as far as a real plan but I did come up with a first step: SPICE. Spices are essential to the taste of so many foods that I love. They can really make a meal. I haven’t played much with spices, with the exception of garlic and italian spices, simply because my parents loved bland food. As a result, my pantry is full of random spices that may or may not work together to make a meal. The most exotic spice we have is Curry Powder but there is SO much more. So what next? I need the spices in my house. But how can I get them? This thought has literally just popped into my head and oddly enough I came across a ‘Makeover’ (AKA Giveaway) from Whole Living Magazine that is a makeover of your Spices with a supply of $350 of high quality spices. I was enthralled and instantly entered. I think you should too, if your interested in spicing up your life. While it’s a long shot to win it would be nice and a start. They do not do the drawing until the end of November though.
In the mean time I am left with confusion about what my next steps should be to begin creating and eating food that is better tasting and exceptional. Do you have any success stories you can share? Any ways of dealing with this on a smaller budget and time frame? Any ideas at all? I would love to hear form you! Please share your thoughts and comments!
Best Wishes for a happy weekend. Also, do not forget that my GIVEAWAY ends Sunday! While just a snack these chips are one of the things that give my taste buds a needed punch of flavor that they need!
