New Products: Gluten Free Pizza Pizza

I am a fiend for pizza, always have been. I suppose it’s that whole New York has better Pizza than everyone else mentality, which is totally correct for the most part. Either way, I’ve recently sampled two new gluten pizzas that I wanted to share. 

 Udi’s Spinach and Feta Pizza

I totally love the combination of Spinach and Feta, and this hit the spot. It was simple to make, just keep frozen until ready to cook and pop in the oven for about 15 minutes. As the box says, it is a great source of calcium, Vitamin A, and protein. I found it to be a filling lunch, although for my personal tastes it was a bit too salty and slightly too oily. However, I loved the overall flavor and texture and would eat it again. I personally added a bit more feta to mine once I tried it because well, I love cheese. I’ve seen this available in Stop and Shop primarily, although locally it is also available in many specialty stores such as Strictly in Northport. It is however a bit expensive.

Trader Joe’s 3 Cheese Gluten Free Pizza

At $4.99 this was a great find at Trader Joe’s, whom I have wished for awhile would carry more TJ products that were gluten free. The down side to the introduction of this product to their line of goods it is that the gluten free labeling is so small that the product gets lost in the mix, I only found it because the cashier mentioned it. This product called for the pizza to be entirely defrosted to cook, something that was time consuming and a bit frustrating when your starving. The final product almost burned, cooking quicker than the cook time called for. However, I like my pizza crunch so it was okay. Overall I found the taste a bit bland, with an over powering taste of basil. However, it was a good base for the addition of some garlic powder and Parmesan cheese. The fresh tomato was an added tasty bonus. Overall this hits the spot as the gluten free pizza version of a plain slice to kick that pizza craving, which is sometimes just what your looking for. I would eat it again, next time probably not waiting for it to defrost entirely.
