Big News in Gluten Free-Alcohol: Michelob Introduces Ultra-light Cider

Michelob recently released a new gluten free cider. This article is a review of the product. They discuss how it is lower in sugar and lighter in color and flavor than normal hard cider. Sounds delicious to me! Redbridge, also made by Anheuser-Busch is a gold standard in gluten free beer, so do you think this cider will be a big hit?

New Study Will Examine the Incidence and Impact of Gluten Intolerance in the UK

Two national charities, including Celiac UK, in the UK have given money to a physician to look into the genetics, health outcomes, and health consequences of celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis. The study will enroll 100,000 patients and will look at trends in location, affluence, genetic relations also diagnosed, and other factors of the disease. I say good work, we truly need large studies looking into celiac disease on a global level!

School Lunch Rules Caught up in Politics

This article interviews a Nutrition and Public Policy specailist and asks the not so simple question: “Can you please explain to me why the USDA is restricting the number of calories in school lunches. It’s bad enough that school food is so awful that the kids won’t eat it. Now are they supposed to go hungry as well?”. Having worked in the school policy field as an intern, the answer is clear to me: Childhood obesity and creating healthier meals. The article goes on to explain the restrictions and the politics around the current uproar. Read on for more details. I fully agree however that youth have the right to become activists for their own rights. Unfortunately, I do not agree that politics should guide our nutrition, but rather health should.
