Gluten Free News Round-Up: Sept.18th-24th

Two Local Upcoming Events:

Columbia Celiac Disease Center 10th Annual gala
On Thursday October 13th this event will be taking place at Mandarin Oriental in New York City and looks like it’ll be a lot of fun! What better way to raise money for a CD cause than with food, drinks and auctions?

Colin Leslie Walk for Celiac Disease
This is the only local walk I can find for this cause and is taking place this year on October 16th, the same week as the above gala. It includes a walk, speakers, time with a nutritionist if you wish and a gluten free vendor fair!

And This Weeks News:

Is There an Increased Risk of End-stage Renal Disease in People with Celiac Disease
This very non-laymen’s term article simply says that in the population studied those with a confirmed biopsy showing celiac disease were more at risk of developing End-stage Renal Disease that was expected. It would be interested to get more data on this to figure out how the CD is affecting Renal Disease. Are you at more risk if your diagnosed later? What about increased rates with increased symptoms?

Alvine Pharm Anounces Upcoming Presentation of Phase-2a ALV003 Data in Patients With Celiac Disease
As a research who has worked on pharmacy studies in the past I love finding our about these projects. ALV003 is a good prospect for a ‘cure’ for CD, although it truly isn’t a cure but rather our version of the Lactaid Pill. Keep your eyes peeled for this information to make it’s way to the internet after the October 24th presentation.

A new set of Allergen Conscious foods: Mad Alex Products
It’s always good to welcome companies which are making the shift to allergy conscious (GFree, Dairy Free etc.) products so welcome Mad Alex Products! Best part about their site? They have all of the nutritional information and ingredients readily available for customer review!
