Recent Study Shows Potential Link Between Celiac Disease and Early Menopause
This recent study looked at 3 key groups, those with CD who follow a GF diet, those who were diagnosed after Menopause with CD and a control group. They found that women who had undiagnosed celiac disease or those who didn’t follow the diet were more likely to go through earlier menopause, by about 2 years. This is an interesting find. First because it shows the needs for following the diet in order to keep our whole bodies safe. In addition it also brings to light the potential need for a women to get screened for CD if they go through early menopause, adding another indicator to look for in a very under screened disorder responsible for so many issues.

A New Science Base Gluten Free Labeling Method
A quality assurance and food safety company has partnered up with NFCA to better the methods of our gluten free labling. This new program includes product testing, acknowledgement of customer comments, review of cross contamination prevention procedures, audits and ongoing surprise audits (among other things) to maintain credibility of being legitimately gluten free. Hopefully this will help standardize things a bit, and make us all feel a bit safer.

Balancing Diabetes and Celiac Disease
Although common together the two disorders can sometimes conflict. For example, since GF foods have a higher carbohydrate count more insulin is needed. The importance of good diet, maintaining a happy attitude and exercise are highlighted in this article that explains some of the complications further.

The Conflict of Gluten Free Living: Cure, Fad or something else?
I just found this article interesting as it highlights the many faces of a gluten free eater, and the many reactions we get in response to our diet. I often make sure to say I have an allergy to gluten, even though CD isn’t really exactly an allergy, because I know many places see GF eaters as only part of the ‘fad’. What are your thoughts on this?
