Celiac Disease Patients Face Higher Risk of Systemic Lupus
In this article, a recent population-based study in Sweden looking at Systemic Lupus in Celiac Disease patients is discussed. The study found that individuals with Celiac Disease have a three times higher risk of developing Systemic Lupus than the general population, and that this risk remained for almost 5 years after diagnosis.

A Quest for Real Beer Without the Gluten
NPR has had many good articles lately, this being one of them in the world of gluten free. This article reviews several gluten free beers, and discusses the companies which are now dedicating their time towards creating such alcoholic beverages for the gluten free community. Among the beers discussed: Omission Pale Ale and Dogfish Head Tweason’Ale.

Is Coeliac Disease Just a Middle Class Health Problem?
I know I’ve posted about this before in the news, but these types of articles really get the Public Health social worker in me going. Do middle class people suffer from CD more often because of diet, or as the doctor discuses are those who have less access to health care just less likely to get diagnosed. It’s a trick thing to determine for researchers, and I would like to see more research that uses screenings to determine the truth.

This article gives a bit more information on recent research into infections and time of year of birth as causes for Celiac Disease, both of which I have discussed before. I like this article because it discusses the connection of the two in easy language that makes it more understandable than some of the previous articles I posted.
