Gluten Free News Round-Up: August 21st-27th

I’m trying to make it out to a scottish festival before the storm hits here on Long Island, NY so I’ll make this one quick. First of all, we need to know how to prep for a hurricane:

Gluten Free Hurricane Preparedness
Here is a great post by Ginger Lemon Girl, which was originally posted in “The Gluten Free Insider” By Kinnkinnick foods. We need to make sure we are prepared, more so likely if we have celiac disease or other similar food issues, for disasters. Take some tips from this and visit the National Hurricane Center’s Checklist for more preparedness suggestions.

On a funnier note: Is there anything special and amusing that was on your preparedness shopping list? I stocked up on some hard cider 🙂

Our Autoimmune Issues May be thanks to our Neanderthal Relatives
This preliminary study is interesting and poses that some HLA related disease in humans may be because they are more neanderthal than others. This is the result of these two species interbreeding. While the genes originally likely helped in regional areas as we migrated around the globe the genes brought more issues then good. Oh evoluation at it’s best, and worst. It’ll be interesting to see what is found as connected to this as time progresses.

Update on the Celiac Disease Vaccine
CeliAct posts some interested news articles and this happens to be one of them. Concise and well written it just pulls together the most up to date information on the Vaccine and where it stands.

Do you think it’ll happen? If so would you get it?

Here is a closer look in another article about how even after going on a gluten free diet you need to be careful. Individuals with celiac disease are at greater risk as is for the disorder. This article lists 5 nutrients and how they can affect your body’s bones.
