A look at a ‘Homemade’ Cookbook

As some of you know there is a group for gluten free recipe sharing on facebook. A man named Robert recently posted about a cookbook that his wife was creating for them that they wished to share. I have been working on making my own recipes, which I have posted here, but I have not been ambitious enough to create my own cookbook. Because of this I was happy to get my hands on it to see what a ‘homemade’, as in currently unpublished, cookbook would look like and what it would contain. I can tell you I was happy for this find.

While I haven’t had the opportunity yet to try any of the recipes because of finals I have taken a look through the cookbook and was impressed! Many of the recipes are simple and seem very easy to make, I would expect that any gluten free individual with a short amount of time to cook would find them great. In addition, the recipes are still unique in their own ways and show a lot of character on the creators part. You can tell that care and compassion were involved in making this book and that the recipes were created with that in mind.

The sections were split into Appetizers, Main Dishes, Desserts, Breakfasts and a section on Gluten Free living tips (how to arrange a kitchen, what types of other products contain gluten, safe products etc.). The final section was nice to see in a cookbook, although I would have liked to see some references for comments. What I liked about the recipes was that there seemed to be a lot of seafood recipes. I have only recently become a lover of seafood, however I am not yet an avid cooker of seafood. I just cant figure out what to do! It’s nice to see a book with seafood suggestions, as I feel some cookbooks shy away from that. I was also happy to see recipes for making homemade BBQ sauces and other sauces. Since a lot of these pre-made sauces for sale are not gluten free in the store trying to find the safe ones can become difficult, thus having recipes to help make your own is a great idea!

All in all, I thought the content was very well thought out. Two comments I would have on improving the content would just be to possibly split the main courses into Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner sections. A sauces section may have also been helpful. Hiowever, the cookbook is great without these modifications and is a great thing to share with the gluten free community. So, thanks Robert!

I am excited to try some of the recipes in this book and share my experiences. In talking to Robert he told me it was alright to share the cookbook with all of you. It is currently in PDF file only, which is great in general and good for the kindle (!). So, if you are interested in checking out the cookbook yourself check out this link to download it. If you have any questions you can also email Robert himself at trosino-at-hotmail-dot-com

Question: Have any of you created your own homemade cookbooks? Would you ever consider sharing them with others?
