Baked Nut Chips- Sour Cream and Chive

Recently we had a ‘House Cooling Party’, or rather a party to commemorate the great times me, Mike and Keil have had living together over the past three years. You see, we’re all moving out and in with our significant others and we always use an opportunity to party. I also happen to use those opportunities to snack like I have never snacked before, it’s a bad bad habit but every so often you have to embrace it. At this party I did just that with Blue Diamond Almonds Baked Nut Chips.

Although they are made in a facility that also processes gluten products they are frequently tested and meet the cut off of below 20PPM of Gluten in order to be safe for Celiacs and the Gluten Intolerant.

These chips come currently in Nacho,Sea Salt and Sour Cream and Chive flavor.  I tried the latter, Sour Cream and Chives. The chips had a great crunch and a nutty texture to them. The seasonings that make the flavoring made a power similar in texture and consistency to the powder found on Doritos, although it seems a bit thicker and more difficult to lick off your fingers! Although this is annoying I think it is well worth it because the flavor was fresh and delicious. I am a big fan of Sour Cream and Onion flavoring on anything, but this tasted far less processed than anything I have had before. Having Chives over Onions added a bit more of a ‘greener’ taste as well (if that makes any sense). I found myself dowing the whole bag, 4 servings worth, in one sitting because they were so delicious.

The only problem? While they’re natural they’re still a bit on the unhealthy side. Made from whole grain rice and almonds these chips make for an interesting alternative to potato chips. As the packaging states they also have 81% less saturated fats! Unfortunately a serving size is only 14 small chips and it still has 130 calories, including 3% of your daily saturated fat intake and 7% of your daily value of Sodium.

Now. while this is definitely still good in comparison to other snacks one definitely have to watch their ‘American’ appetite if they are still trying to stay healthy. I will admit that I am a glutton eater at very rare times and this was one of them because of how good the chips were! This is both a good and bad thing of course.

I would highly recommend this snack in moderation and if I try the others flavors I will surely let all you know!
