National (Gluten Free) Sandwich Day 2010 & ‘Grown Up’ Grilled Cheese

I have had a Craving for sandwiches lately which is incredibly convenient given that the other day, November 3rd, was National Sandwich Day. Unfortunately I did not have a sandwich on November 3rd but I did SANDWICH Sandwich day with two delightful sandwiches.

November 2nd- I came home from class to find that Mike had made me a simple grilled cheese sandwich. I had been talking about them the weekend before, about how they were my comfort food as a child. They really were. A simple grilled cheese sandwich and a handful of chips would make my day. In college a friend got me to love grilled cheese and tomato soup, which I had always hated but quickly fell in love with. So, when I got home from class on Tuesday I was graced with a pan grilled gluten free grilled cheese and gluten free tomato soup from Amy’s. Boy on Boy was I a happy girl!

November 4th-  On Thursday I was still craving sandwiches. I was initially going to make gluten free spaghetti but after seeing my Katz bread in the freeze I opted to make a ‘grown up grilled cheese’. I assessed what I had in the kitchen and came up with this:

Georgia’s Grown Up Grilled Cheese: 2 servings
4 slices Kat’s gluten free bread
 butter/olive oil for cooking
4 slices Applegate Farms Gluten Free smoked turkey breast
 2 slices mozzarella
 6 pepperoni slices
 Koops’ Honey Mustard (Gluten Free!)

1. Butter or brush olive oil on the bread. Place on a heated skillet and cook each side until light golden brown.
2. Add one slice of turkey breast to two slices of bread, top with slice of mozzerella, another slice of turkey and pepperoni. Top off each with the remaining slices of bread, with honey mustard on the inside side.
3. Cook until mozzarella is melted and bread is browned as desired.

I opted for the turkey with the sandwich because turkey is my deli meat of choice. Applegate was also my turkey of choice before going gluten free. I have been aprehensive about deli meat because I am embarrassed to ask the deli clerk to clean the cutter, however Keil got me the product that was packaged at the factory. Obviously, if turkey is not your deli meat of choice you can switch in another meat.

Check out this meal as part of the many entries for September 2011’s Go Ahead Honey Round-Up!

SO GOOD!

  1. Wow! Thank you! That means a lot coming from your company. I Love your products, the Black Pepper turkey is my favorite. I haven’t had the chance to have it in while because of the fear of cross contamination from Deli Cutters but the prepackaged products are a blessing. Thanks again!
