National Celiac Awareness Day

This weekend was Mike’s Birthday celebration so we were hella busy! Luckily though I managed not to get glutened, I am getting good at this (finally)!

So I know this has been in the news in the past and recently but I figured I would share. The first ever National Celiac Awareness Day is this coming September 13th. I think it’s a good thing to have positive, not misconstrued, publicity as there has been a lot in general lately regarding gluten free and CD and we want to make sure the right image is presented to the public for everyone’s good. Here is the LINK to the actual proclamation.

Here are some fun ways we can celebrate National Celiac Awareness Day:

1. Cook a gluten free meal for everyone, but don’t tell them it’s gluten free until the end! Surprise them with great tasting GF food and break their misconceptions that all GF food is ‘bland and nasty’
2. Share Sometime positive about the disease with someone you know, or even a stranger!
3. Ask your non gluten free friends to omit gluten from one meal that day, even the ‘hidden gluten’ to promote awareness and so they get a feel of what it’s like to eat GF
4. Throw a GF potluck.
5. Be a role model for someone who is newly diagnosed
6. Speak to your favorite restaurant or grocery about the important of GF options and offer some suggestions
7. Share your thoughts and feelings about CD and being GF with a friend or relative who may not understand
8. Hold a Gluten Free Bake sale
9. Share your very own GF Recipes or great ones you have recently come across!
10. #10 LEFT BLANK FOR YOUR IDEA!

What are YOU going to do to increase awareness about Celiac Disease?
