LUNA Protein Bars

A few months back LUNA bars was gracious enough to send me a few of their bars from their new protein line. Of course, in the process of still getting used to and cleaning the new place I had misplaced the box they came in until recently. What a surprise though when I found them!

LUNA’S protein bars have a rich full chocolaty taste, with each being covered by a layer of chocolate. BUT, You won’t have to skip a meal or work off the calories for these. It makes them great, in my opinion! They are each under 200 calories with 12grams of protein, 3 grams of  fiber and a rich level of calcium, iron, vitamin D and Folate.

These bars are also good for required medical diets for Diabetes and Celiac Disease, as they have a low Glycemic Index, and have recently transitioned over to a gluten free line in 2011. As an added bonus, I find that they also fill me up better than any other bars I’ve tried! Of the five available flavors (Mint Chocolate Chip, Cookie Dough, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chocolate Cherry Almond and Chocolate) I have 2 favorites:

Mint Chocolate Chip
Mint and I are fair-weather friends, when it’d done right it’s delicious but when it’s not I won’t touch it. This mint is done perfect, with a subtle yet inviting taste. To sight, you wouldn’t expect it to be mint, it isn’t green as we are used to from our processed Mint products! That definitely makes it more appealing in and of itself. The overall consistency is smooth and inviting, the chocolate even melts a bit as you hold it (leaving you licking your fingers for more!).

Chocolate Cherry Almond
I will say flat out that I am not always a fan of cherry, often it is too overbearing a fake of a flavor for my tastes. These bars however are probably the favorite of my line! The natural yet relaxed flavor of the cherries is balanced well by that of the chocolate and the almonds. As opposed to my thoughts before trying it, the ingredients are also well blended with no large chunks. It’s a sweet and bitter tasted that definitely satisfies my taste buds at any time of the day.

Since I tried these I’ve noticed that they are more readily available now in stores than Larabars, and cheaper, so keep your eyes peeled for them in stores! They are a delicious substitute to chocolaty snacking on things such as M&Ms and a great source of protein!
