Locally Gluten Free: Part 4

Rangmahal Indian Cuisine

This restaurant has been a favorite of Mike and I since about 2008 so until recently I didn’t even consider them to be a gluten free friendly restaurant that I could review. But, the last time I went I realize I just had to post a review!

As with most Indian cuisine, all dishes are gluten free with the exception of the samosas. Instead of wheat, rye or barley they traditionally use Chickpea flour in their dishes! While the food is a bit pricey (between 15-25$ a dish) every dish I have had so far has been well worth the price. Each dish made two meals for me and has been worthy of royalty, literally. The Chef explained to use upon one of our many visits that he used to cook for Indian Royalty before immigrating to the USA and I have no doubt that this is true. The restaurant staff is composed of the chef, his wife ,who typically works as server and hostess, as well as one or two other individuals on busy days. Everyone there are friendly and aware of gluten free needs, which makes me assume that they typically have gluten free folks come in. They have suggestions of great dishes of the day based on what fresh ingredients they have. The restaurant is small but cozy and rarely full, which allows for personal attention from the Chef and other staff. It is decorated in traditional Indian decor which gives it a special mystical air and makes it is very warm and inviting.

So, if we break things down Rangmahal gets the following in each category:

Gluten Free Options: 1
Atmosphere: 1
Price: 1
Hospitality: 1
Food Quality: 1

5 SHAMROCKS
They are well worth the travel if you are not close and they are definitely worth the cost. I highly recommend you check Rangmahal out, be you gluten free or not. Go There!

  1. Yes, Indian cuisine is about the most reliable place to go for hassle-free gluten-free food. When we’ve been travelling in foreign countries and have problems with not speaking the local language or knowing the local restaurants, we’ve often had to fall back on finding the nearest Indian. Luckily, my partner and I both love it!
