Gluten Free News Round-Up: July 22nd-28th

Ah summer. Truly time to live the gluten free life. My free time lately  have looked something like this photo:



Swimming, dinner at friends houses, fresh local corn, and a good cider to top off the night. Tomorrow I’m going to add VACATION to that list. Mike and I are leaving bright and early for Colorado and New Mexico with destinations including: Denver, Central City, Fort Collins, Greeley, and Colorado Springs in Colorado and Albuquerque, Las Cruces, and hopefully Santa Fe in New Mexico. It will be a whirl wind of  a week, and I am exciting to bring you some vacation themed posts and views once we come back.

For now though, here’s this week’s news!

Celiac Disease Risk Higher for Children in Northern Alberta: Study Shows
This study shows the interlink between disease, environment, and biology. Results show that individuals with CD in Northern Alberta, where there is typically less sun light, are at higher risk of lower bone density as well as vitamin d. Vitamin d comes from many grains, which CD patients avoid, as well as the sun. Research such as this is integral because it shows some of the changes that need to take place for common treatment of CD clients, in this case potentially prescribing high doses of Vitamin D or sunlight exposure.

Celiac Disease Linked Lymphoproliferative Disorders
Simply put, this article found that individuals with Celiac Disease in a sample study had higher rates of Lymphocyte production (a  type of white blood cell), which leads to Lymphoproliferative Disorders (Including several types of Lymphoma: Cancer of the white blood cells). Commonly occurring in  individuals with compromised immune systems, this it hopeful research that could help direct drug research for autoimmune and inflammation disease.

Katz Gluten Free Releases New All Purpose Dough 
Because of the fact many gluten free flours are made of a mix of flours, pre-made dough makes life easier for many gluten free cooks. I would say that Katz made a good move in respect to making an all purpose dough, that can be used from everything from pie to pastry.

Surprising Foods That Keep You Hydrated
Not entirely gluten free related, I felt this article was relevant as summer heats up into full swing. It is incredibly important to stay hydrated in the  Luckily many of the items on this list are gluten free!
